Happy Birthday, Elvis

We now have 75 years of Elvis, though he left this building in "77. I've posted this like ten times, but it's all I got.

How can you wish someone a Happy Birthday when they've been dead since you've been 7? He died before I knew his name. Get over it, people.

The name I usually go by is SaraCVT. The above comment was mine as well. I'm just trying to get your blog to acknowlege this. Sorry for the double post.

I wonder what kind of sandwiches Elvis Costello likes?

I too was never a big Elvis fan. But I lived in Memphis, Tennessee for about 28 years, & alive or dead, "The King" always had an impact on that city.

The day he died was one of those times when the news travels like a wildfire & you always remember exactually where you were when you first heard the it-can't-be true-news.

Years later I had a chance to take some out-of-town friends to Graceland. I LOVED THE PLACE. Maybe it still didn't make me a fan of Elvis, but I am a fan of Graceland.

If you "Do Memphis" ... you HAVE to go to Graceland.

I'll Be Right Back (1999), the autobiography of talk show host Mike Douglas, gives the facts re Elvis and Robert Goulet: Goulet had dated a singer from Elvis' group, so when Goulet was a guest on The Mike Douglas Show, Elvis shot the TV set. This happened in a hotel, so the incident became a news story. Elvis was concerned about Mike Douglas' reaction and phoned to apologize. Douglas then tried to get Elvis on his show. Elvis: "I'm sorry, Mr. Douglas. Mike. I can't. Honest to God. I just can't." Douglas: "Elvis, why not? You don't even have to sing if you don't want to." Douglas tried several angles during the phone call, but Elvis refused.
