March

March has more potential for jokes than most months. This was from 1999, according to the Star Wars gag. I stole that lion from Ronald Searle. Below is a more universal March cartoon.

  1. Not ONLY funny drawings but world-class poetry too!

BTW, the calendar is wrong. My power went out TODAY...

  2. Are you familiar with Flanders and Swann's weather song? Of course they were singing about UK weather, but...? And they sang well, but couldn't draw. And you sure can. Your 'song' is pretty good too!

    January brings the snow,
Makes your feet and fingers glow.

    February's ice and sleet,
Freeze the toes right off your feet.

    Welcome, March, with wint'ry wind,
Would thou weren't not so unkind.

April brings the sweet spring showers,
On and on for hours and hours.

    Farmers fear unkindly May,
Frost by night and hail by day.

June just rains and never stops,
Thirty days and spoils the crops.

In July the sun is hot,
    Flanders: Is it shining?
    Swann: No it's not!

Both: August, cold and dank and wet,
Brings more rain than any yet.

    Bleak September's mist and mud,
Is enough to chill the blood.

    Then October adds a gale,
Wind and slush and rain and hail.

    Dark November brings the fog,
Should not do it to a dog.

    Freezing wet December, then...
    Both: Bloody January again!

  3. Richard - You is a genius. Please tell me that "Richard's Poor Almanac" will see print again. I need my own copy of "12 months of misinformation in handy cartoon form."

  5. Richard -

Woo-Hoo, I just ordered my copy. Thanks so much for the tip. You just bumped Ralph Steadman down a notch and moved up to number 10 on my "All-Time Favorite Comic Illustrators List". (Unless Ralph comes through with the sketch of John Kerry Munster cradling an iranian garden gnome.)
