Obama Again

Here's Obama as FDR for the New Yorker. I didn't get a chance to read the article by George Packer that it illustrates, but the image seemed to fit the brief description of it they sent. Now if Obama can just find himself a Fala.

  1. Oh, sweet. : )

I foresee no tiring of your drawings of this man. Not a Democrat (nor a Republican, for the record), but with this I know I could be happy for 8 yrs.

  2. This is terrific- one of my absolute favorite of your pieces.
When they get around to adding more hours to the day, I hope you do a nice thick collection of your caricature work.

  3. Agreement with above, Great drawing
I have a "Fala" only he is a Watson, and a Hamish which is half Westie and Scottish Terrier, he loves attention but as a Darth Vader type, he is always in conflict with both sides...

  5. Dirk--

Fala was the pet dog FDR had while in the White House.

  7. I understand! In this image Obama seems like Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and we just want the dog Fala. Thanks for the help. CIAO!

  8. Obama smokes? I didn't know that. I think I want a vote do-over.

  9. Thanks, yeah it came out ok, and the NYer cover this week, by Bob Staake, is one of their all-time greats.

Dirk, Fala became famous enough that he has his own statue at the FDR memorial. And Obama made a point of saying his daughters will get a puppy when they move to the White House.

Mike, I only learned that the other day. First chink in the armor, huh?

  11. I'd buy a book of Richard Thompson caricatures for sure. I may even sleep with it.

  12. You liked the Staake cover? I thought it was clever, but not typical of his work at least as we see it in the Post. He seems to be becoming one of their 'go-to' cover artists though.

Inside, besides Richard, are 3 Obama caricatures by Blitt (no cover though!) and a Feiffer drawing.

  13. Not only does this issue have all of the nifty things Mike mentioned, it also prints Richard's drawing as a full page. That's worth the cover price itself.
We know you liked the Staake cover, Richard, but what I want to know is what did you think of Obama's doodle portraits of Sens. Schumer, Reid, Feinstein and Kennedy? The reporter raves that they are "identifiable."

  14. The November 24th issue of Time has a Photoshopped cover with Obama as FDR with a caption about the New New Deal.

  15. Kevin, I thought it was cool that Obama doodles, and yeah, they were mostly identifiable. Especially Feinstein.

Eric, I think I'm fully justified in suing. You'll be a witness, right?

And this may be available as a print soon. I'll let you know....
