I forgot to draw a balloon around the words "adult swim" in today's strip. It doesn'st kill it or spoil the joke, but it would've looked sharper to have the words tethered by a balloon. It'd have added more oomph & direction & organic flow & stuff like that.
And I know how it happened. I lettered "adult swim" last, with a Speedball B-3 nib, and the ink was taking forever to dry, and I thought "I'll add the balloon later, after the ink's dried", and I never did.
That is pretty cool. I guess I didn't really notice - but that is cuz I'm not in the biz. Sorry for your "oops" but nice to know it happens to everyone.... :)
ReplyDeletePoor Petey...
ReplyDeleteHi Richard, I've given you an award :-D
ReplyDeletePlease come to my blog and pick it up ;-)

I think maybe a hairline indicating who shouted it, but no balloon -- that way it's louder, and it comes across to us as it did to him, as a general announcement and not just something shouted by his little sister. Much more startling.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to understand it, when i read yesterday. Had to read it once again to get it. But nothing that spoiled the fun. Great work!
ReplyDeleteWorking at 3 a.m. will do that to you. :-)
ReplyDeletei always obsess about that kinda stuff....a lot of people never notice..like..ummm I didn't!
ReplyDeleteThe missing balloon isn't really a problem; your message comes out loud and clear ... I think. What's ADULT SWIM anyway? Wouldn't something like JELLY-FISH! or ROGUE WAVE! be clearer? ... or maybe as a landlubber I've simply just missed the point. (How embarassing.)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love your work (even if I don't understand it sometimes).
It happens a lot when you white out, at least it happens a lot for me, and I end correcting it on the computer.
ReplyDeleteI have a big list of all the originals I have to complete that way.
Anyway, I think that little "error" worked fine, it really works as a big shout, without the baloon.
