Shout out to Mark Tatulli, as well.)<br /><br />To the Editor:<br /><br />A June 25 letter about John Tierney's June 21 column, ''The Adams Principle,'' states with some authority that ''the latter stage of life'' should ''prepare us for the diminution of our powers through a focus on compassion, wisdom and good social works.''<br /><br />Personally, I have found that one of the most delightful benefits of aging is that there are fewer and fewer ''shoulds.'' Thus, I hope that the letter writer will forgive me if I spend my retirement riding roller coasters, reading comic books or doing anything else I please -- which may well include not retiring at all.<br /><br />Barbara L.
